IDAHO COUPLES THERAPIST FOR FIRST RESPONDERS
Jimmy Loer, LAMFT
Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist in ID
I am an Idaho therapist who works with individuals and couples navigating trauma, chronic stress, and relationship challenges. Drawing on nearly two decades of experience in law enforcement, I understand firsthand how demanding careers, difficult experiences, and unresolved stress can affect every part of life—from emotional well-being to the people we care about most.
I provide a grounded, collaborative approach to therapy that balances compassion with practical action. I believe meaningful change happens when clients feel understood, challenged, and supported as they identify the patterns keeping them stuck. Whether you're working through trauma, rebuilding trust in your relationship, or learning healthier ways to communicate, I help clients develop practical tools that create lasting change.
My work is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), attachment-focused therapy, Structural Family Therapy, and Gottman Method principles. Therapy is tailored to each client's unique goals, with an emphasis on strengthening resilience, improving communication, and creating healthier relationships built on trust and connection.
Before becoming a therapist, I served in law enforcement for 18 years. That experience continues to shape my understanding of trauma, high-stress environments, and the unique challenges faced by first responders and their families. I offer a direct, supportive environment where clients can process difficult experiences without judgment and move toward a life defined by greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.

CHRISTIAN COUPLES THERAPIST IN ID
Therapy for First Responders
Police officers, firefighters, EMTs, dispatchers, corrections professionals, military personnel, and other first responders often spend years caring for others while putting their own emotional needs on hold.
The skills that make someone effective on the job can become obstacles when trying to connect with loved ones or process difficult experiences.
I offer therapy from someone who understands the culture firsthand. Whether you're navigating chronic stress, trauma, burnout, relationship strain, or simply feeling emotionally exhausted, therapy can help you process what you've experienced while developing practical tools that support both your career and your personal life.
Couples Counseling
Every relationship develops patterns. Sometimes those patterns create closeness and trust. Other times they leave couples feeling unheard, disconnected, or stuck repeating the same painful conversations.
I work with couples to slow those cycles down and understand what's happening beneath the conflict. Together, you'll identify communication patterns, rebuild trust, strengthen emotional connection, and develop healthier ways of working through challenges as a team.
Whether you're preparing for marriage, recovering after betrayal, adjusting to major life changes, or simply wanting to reconnect, therapy offers a space to strengthen the relationship rather than continue fighting against one another.
Christian Counseling
For many people, faith is an important part of how they understand themselves, their relationships, and life's challenges.
When requested, I’ll integrate Christian principles into the counseling process in a thoughtful, client-centered way. Therapy never assumes or imposes beliefs, but instead honors your faith as one of many valuable resources that can support healing, growth, forgiveness, and healthy relationships.
Whether your concerns involve marriage, anxiety, grief, trauma, or spiritual questions, therapy with me can provide space to explore both emotional and spiritual well-being together.
Do I sound like a good fit for you?
We may connect well if:
You work as a first responder or in another high-stress profession and want a therapist who understands that culture.
You and your partner feel stuck in recurring arguments or growing emotional distance.
You're looking for practical strategies—not just someone to listen.
You value honesty, accountability, and straightforward conversations delivered with compassion.
You'd like your Christian faith thoughtfully incorporated into therapy.
You're ready to understand the patterns keeping you stuck and begin building something healthier.
Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you're used to handling everything on your own. Sometimes the hardest step is simply deciding you don't have to carry it by yourself anymore.
I would be honored to walk alongside you as you begin that process.
