EFT COUPLES THERAPY IN CALIFORNIA, IDAHO, AND WASHINGTON
EFT Couples Therapy
Building trust in yourself and your relationship.

RECONNECTING AND BUILDING STRONGER BONDS
When you’re stuck in unhelpful, divisive relationship patterns, it can be hard to see exactly what’s happening.
Conflict, dissatisfaction, and communication challenges can start to feel normal, and you might not even know anymore why you and your partner are struggling so much. You might not know how to express how you feel, or you might hold back, worrying about looking weak or being hurt if you try to be vulnerable.
You can break free from these cycles—EFT is the path forward.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) helps you break the cycle of negative patterns and rediscover trust, empathy, and connection. Whether your issues are rooted in unresolved past conflicts or ongoing stress, EFT guides partners to understand their emotional needs and respond to each other with more openness and care.
It’s time to break the negative feedback loop.
EFT THERAPY FOR COUPLES
EFT for couples provides clarity on the relational patterns that are playing out between you and your partner. With attention to the content and quality of your interactions and the emotional patterns simmering underneath, therapy offers a safe, open space to express the deeper hurt and bring to light the cycles that are keeping you stuck.
Your EFT therapist will help you and your partner make real, concrete changes in how you relate to one another. In session, we’ll prioritize showing up for each other in a way that respects the needs and boundaries of each partner. You’ll start to redevelop trust and closeness in your relationship, building safety and intimacy as you open yourself up to the honest communication that is a requirement for connection.

EFT THERAPY FOR PARENTS
A stronger relationship benefits the whole family
Better communication and improved relationship patterns with your partner can unlock a brighter future for your whole family.
As you grow your ability to notice unhelpful patterns, communicate, and change to build better ones, you improve the other relationships in your life. You’ll be more able to be present with your partner, and this allows you to be more present with your children, too.
When you’re more confident in your relationship, you’re often more confident in yourself as well, and that sense of self-assuredness helps you lead a life that is a healthy example for your children to follow.
EFT THERAPY FOR INDIVIDUALS
Transforming Your Relationship with Yourself
EFT for individuals helps you explore the emotional patterns in your relationships—whether with a partner, family, or friends—focusing on your own experiences, needs, and boundaries. Working with your therapist, you’ll uncover the underlying emotions that drive your behaviors, identify what you want and need in your relationships, and learn how to set boundaries that protect your well-being.
This process empowers you to make changes in your life that lead to healthier, more satisfying connections, whether you're seeking to heal from past patterns or create new ways of relating that support your emotional growth and security.

Frequently Asked Questions About EFT Therapy
-
For your first EFT couples session, I will meet with both partners to discuss your concerns and challenges, your mental health, family history, relationship history, strengths, and goals. I will explain the therapeutic process and how future sessions will work.
Next, I will have individual sessions with each partner separately to gain more insight on each partner’s experience in the relationship. After these first three sessions, we will typically meet all together, but occasionally I may offer an individual session for one partner if needed.
I will answer any questions you might have and work to create a dynamic, open rapport between us all. I consider it my responsibility to ensure that therapy is safe and accessible to both of you. I will work to earn your trust and create a therapeutic space where honesty and vulnerability are possible.

EFT couples therapy sessions last 1 hour and take place every week. The number of sessions required will depend on the individual relationship. There is no ideal number of couples counseling sessions, and we will evaluate the need for ongoing sessions based on your feelings throughout the process.
EFT couples therapy can be conducted in person at the Coeur d’Alene office or via telehealth through SimplePractice, Zoom, or Alma for individuals residing in CA, ID, or WA.

I’ve been there. When my wife first proposed premarital counseling to me, I was skeptical. Would it really matter? Did we really need to share how our relationship worked with a therapist? And what if it created conflict between us, or I got blamed for things unfairly?
I’m the first person to admit when I am wrong, and I was wrong about the value of therapy. I hadn’t yet fully realized how helpful it can be to learn to be open and honest—with yourself, with your partner, and with a therapist. My wife and I were able to connect and communicate what we needed and hoped for in ways that I didn’t even realize I’d been missing out on.
My hope is that you, too, will give it a chance and maybe find out your preconceived notions about therapy are wrong.

No one person can fix all the problems in a struggling relationship, but that doesn’t mean you’re stuck if you’re in a relationship with someone who can’t or won’t participate in couples therapy.
You can’t change a partner who doesn’t want to change, but you can change your life in ways that support who you are, and how you want to live. EFT for individuals can help get you there. I also offer EMDR therapy and EMDR Intensives for trauma healing and more.
