Are you ready to show up differently in your life?

EMDR THERAPY FOR DEPRESSION, ANXIETY & TRAUMA

We are all influenced by our past experiences. But when those experiences were traumatic, they can show up in your daily life as mood and mental health issues, physical symptoms, flashbacks, feeling like a failure as a parent, and relationship challenges. It’s common to feel numb, broken, unworthy of love, or like you’re not enough. This can make it hard to trust others and yourself.

But here’s the truth: You can change—EMDR is the tool.

Whether you’ve experienced a single life-changing event—such as an accident, loss, or assault—or have faced ongoing challenges like repeated relationship conflict, childhood neglect, or chronic stress, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy can help you break free from those symptoms and start living as the best version of yourself. You can be the partner and parent you want to be—without the weight of the past holding you back.

By leveraging your mind’s inherent ability to adapt, EMDR uses reprocessing, reframing, and resilience-building to expand your capacity for self-regulation in the face of trauma.

WHY EMDR WORKS WHEN TALK THERAPY DOESN’T

When you can’t figure out how to break cycles in your life, it’s time to try something different

When you experience something traumatic, your brain associates the feelings, sensations, and thoughts of the moment together. If you don’t have support to process your experiences during and after they happen, these associations can continue, and every time a similar feeling, sensation, or thought resurfaces, your body and mind can be dragged right back into that traumatic experience as if it’s happening now.

Unprocessed trauma disrupts daily life and can mask as anxiety, depression, fear, flashbacks, nightmares, insomnia, eating issues, headaches, chronic pain, unstable relationships, work difficulties, substance abuse, anger, mood swings, and more.

EMDR helps you break the connections between the memories and the physical and mental experiences of trauma, changing how traumatic experiences and beliefs impact your life.

TRANSFORMATIVE EMDR IN IDAHO, WASHINGTON & CALIFORNIA

  • Sometimes trauma isn’t a single, clear-cut event—it’s a series of ongoing experiences. Neglect, abuse, sexual assault, housing or food insecurity, and other repeated hardships can happen over and over, creating a web of experiences that shape how you see yourself and how you live your life today.

For these ongoing, chronic traumas, EMDR can be adapted to encompass a series of similar memories or experiences, instead of having to target experiences one by one. Through this adapted protocol, EMDR can still have the same freeing effect of reducing distress and incorporating positive self-beliefs to correct the inaccurate and hurtful negative self-beliefs trauma can try to cement in your mind.

  • Our brains begin linking traumatic events with emotions, images, and physical sensations right away, and these connections typically become more firmly established over about three months.

You don’t have to wait for that process to finish—if you’ve recently experienced something like sexual assault, loss, a natural disaster, a car accident, medical difficulties, violence, or being a victim of a crime, EMDR can help you process and manage those memories now, before they become more deeply embedded.

  • EMDR can support parents who are ready to break negative generational cycles and parent with compassion, love, safety, and emotional capacity for your children. With EMDR, you can recognize the ways trauma holds you back as a parent, causing overwhelm and dysregulation.

Trauma can keep you stuck in emotion and thought cycles that were born out of terrible situations. Using EMDR to break free from those cycles, you can develop better communication with your partner, be more present with your children, grow to become a role model for them, and experience increased trust in yourself.

Now Offering EMDR Intensives

EMDR intensives involve multiple hours of EMDR reprocessing, carefully paced to effectively reduce the impacts of traumatic memories and strengthen positive ones over multiple hours in the same day (up to 6 hours), or split into a few sessions over a few days.

Research has shown that EMDR intensive sessions help clients focus on repair and reprocessing, while also ensuring that life’s distractions won’t disrupt therapy. For those who struggle to attend weekly sessions over a long period, and for those interested in faster healing, an EMDR intensive is an excellent option.

Intensive EMDR can provide rapid healing, even with severe trauma

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions by clients about EMDR therapy. If you don’t see your question here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • For your first EMDR session, I’ll ask questions about your concerns and challenges, your mental health, family history, relationship history, and strengths and goals. We may discuss what memory, experience, or ongoing trauma you’d like to address first with EMDR, and I will explain the therapeutic process and how future sessions will work.

I will answer any questions you might have and work to create a dynamic, open rapport between us. I consider it my responsibility to ensure that therapy is safe and accessible to you. I will work to earn your trust and create a therapeutic space where honesty and vulnerability feel worthwhile.

  • Standard EMDR therapy sessions last about an hour and take place every week. The number of sessions required will depend on the complexity of your trauma. There is no ideal number of EMDR sessions, and we will evaluate the need for ongoing sessions based on your feelings throughout the process.

EMDR can be conducted in person at the Coeur d’Alene office or via telehealth through SimplePractice, Zoom, or Alma for individuals residing elsewhere in CA, ID, or WA.

Intensive EMDR sessions take 6 hours, either in a single session or split over two 3-hour sessions. These can happen in person in our Coeur d’Alene office, or via telehealth through SimplePractice, Zoom, or Alma for anyone living in CA, ID, or WA.

  • My main goal with therapy is to make sure each client has a therapy experience that feels safe and restorative. If a client is hesitant to work with a male therapist, it is important to me to make sure you only receive therapy from someone you trust and feel comfortable around, and that may not be me.

That said, there can be value in building a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship with a male therapist after SA. Some people benefit from a reparative, positive experience with a man while processing traumas that were inflicted by men, and should you choose to pursue therapy with me, it is my top priority to create a safe and supportive experience for you.
